| A characteristic of the natural world is that strongly related phenomena occur across a vast range of organisms, scales and environments. Consequently multi-discplinary approaches have the potential to highlight "universal" processes or effects. MOPED was conceived as a forum to allow researchers in departments throughout the University to come together to discuss common issues and to motivate future joint initiatives and research straddling the varied disciplines. |
| Getting involved |
| Details of future meetings will be posted on this website. All are welcome to attend. Additionally you may want to subscribe to the MOPED email list. In this way you can be involved in general discussions of the key (and other) topics and in the formulation of future MOPED meetings and initiatives (including grant applications). The email address for the list is moped-forum@lists.soton.ac.uk. The details on how to subscribe to this email list can be found here. Alternatively just send Adrian Martin (apm1@soc.soton.ac.uk) your email address and he will add you to the email list himself. |
| Key Topics | Previous meetings |
1. model-fitting 2. how to go from individual/small-scale to population behaviour? 3. reaction-diffusion systems 4. developing a `correct' model and control theory 5. comparing models 6. evolution 7. synchronisation 8. biologically inspired computing |
This meeting got MOPED off to a good start by allowing people to give a quick introduction to their research and interests to an audience drawn from five University departments. This was followed by a discussion which identified Key Topics (see opposite) that would be of interest for future focussed meetings or seminars. |
